The best children's books from abroad

FCBC Children’s Book Award has announced its shortlists this week.
The Children’s Book Award was founded in 1980 by author and Honorary FCBG President Pat Thompson and is owned and run by the Federation of Children’s Book Groups. The overall winner is awarded the Children’s Book Award Silver Tree, of which they are the custodian for a year, and an engraved silver acorn which is theirs to keep. Each of the category winners receive a silver bookmark and each shortlisted author and illustrator will also receive an incredible portfolio of writing and artwork created by children inspired by their book. The ten titles on the shortlist for the Books for Younger Children, Books for Younger Readers and Books for Older Readers categories, were chosen by children who read and voted for the books in schools and book groups around the country.

Elizabeth Mrazik-Cleaver Canadian Picture Book Award has announced its shortlists this week.
The Elizabeth Mrazik-Cleaver Canadian Picture Book Award was established in 1985 following the death of Elizabeth Mrazik-Cleaver, one of Canada’s pre-eminent book illustrators. In her will, Cleaver left a fund of $10,000 dollars for an award to be given annually in recognition of outstanding artistic talent in a Canadian picture book.
